Newark School of the Arts FALL Classes 2023 COVID Plan

CDC recommends schools continue to use the current COVID-19 prevention strategies for the 2022-23 school year.

For everyone’s protection 100% of our faculty and staff is vaccinated. We highly encourage ALL persons 6mo and up to get vaccinated as soon as possible to stop the spread of Covid-19 and the Omicron Variant. Anyone 18 or older must show proof of vaccination before entering the building. Only registered students will be permitted inside the building.

VOICE LESSONS WILL REMAIN VIRTUAL UNTIL IT IS DETERMINED TO BE SAFE IN ACCORDANCE WITH CDC GUIDELINES

Facility

·       To ensure your safety and to protect our students, faculty and staff, only vaccinated individuals (12 and over) will be invited to enter the building. Unvaccinated students 12 and under must wear masks and social distance.  

·       Registered students taking indoor classes will be welcomed inside the building for classes/lessons.  Parents will be asked to wait in their cars in the parking lot or in our designated garden waiting area outside the building 

·       In accordance to the CDC guidelines, all persons entering the building will be asked to wear a mask at all times and Social distancing will be observed.  

Outside

·       In the abundance of caution, CDC Social Distancing and Mask regulations will be observed.

·       As a precaution, temperature checks will be conducted before entering the building.

·       For your convenience, Hand sanitizer stations will be available outside and throughout the building. Frequent handwashing will continue to encouraged.

 Inside

·      To protect everyone’s safety, nonessential visitors, parents/caregivers, volunteers, and external groups or organizations will will not be allowed to enter the school building Only students will be invited to enter the building. 

·      We ask that Dance Students arrive dressed and ready for classes BEFORE entering the building. (Changing inside the building will not be an option) A mask should be worn at all times.   

·      To minimize potential exposure, parents should wait in their cars or in our designated outdoor waiting area until their child's lesson/class time and in case their temperature is elevated (100.4 degrees or more) upon entrance.  Parent/caregivers should remain in the parking lot the entire duration of their class/lesson. 

 Entry Procedure

 The foyer will be the key entry point into the building where temperature and screening will occur.  

1.         A Face mask is required to enter the building

2.         Symptom screening - Employees and students will be asked a series of covid-19 symptom related questions before entering the building.

3.         Temperature Checks will be conducted for faculty and students upon entering the building using a non-contact thermometer. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will be asked to return home until they are feeling better.

4.         Hand Washing/Sanitizing – For your convenience, employees and students will be provided with hand sanitizer before entering the building. 

Social Distancing

To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, social distancing will be observed inside and outside the building. This may include limiting group sizes, creating small cohorts, keeping students six feet apart, restricting non-essential visitors.

·      Clear partitions will be used to help maintain social distancing.

·      Signage, floor decals will be utilized to provide visual cues and ensure procedures are followed.

·      No more than 2 people may occupy an elevator at a time.

·      Alternate spaces (larger classrooms) to accommodate in-person learning.

·      Faculty will be provided with disinfecting wipes and will be in charge of cleaning their keyboards, studio doorknobs and high touch surfaces between lessons.

·      There will be an enhanced cleaning/disinfecting schedule for restrooms and all doorknobs, counters, tables, desks, and school surfaces.

·      Hepa Filter engaged with Window open in classrooms

·      Clear Plexi-glass partition 

·      Face Shield and/or Mask-for staff/faculty member

·      15 minutes to clean and air out room between lessons/classes

 Actions Required if a student tests positive for COVID

Group classes: If a student tests positive for Covid-19, All parents will be contacted immediately.  All students in that class must get a covid test.  They can only return to class with proof of a negative covid test.  Positive student (s) must quarantine at home for 14 days and must have proof of negative covid test to return to classes.  Classes can be taught virtually during the class quarantine.  Teacher MUST get covid test before returning to in person classes.  If Positive, they must quarantine at home for 14 days.  Teacher can teach at home during quarantine or arrange for a qualified, vaccinated and vetted substitute to teach in person classes. They must provide proof of a Negative covid test before returning to work. 

Private Lessons: Parents will be contacted immediately. Positive student must quarantine at home for 14 days and must present proof of negative covid test to resume in person lessons.  Student can have virtual lessons during quarantine provided they feel up to the task and teacher is not positive.  Teacher MUST get covid test before returning to in person classes.  If Positive, they must quarantine at home for 14 days.  Teacher can teach at home during quarantine or arrange for a qualified, vaccinated and vetted substitute to teach in person classes. They must provide proof of a Negative covid test before returning to work. 

MAKE-UP Lessons must be provided to any student who misses a class/lesson due to Covid illness

Newark School of the Arts

Starting in 2018, the Newark School of the Arts (NSA) will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary.  The School provides high-level training in the performing and visual arts. Since 1968, the school has offered instruction for everyone with an interest in the arts regardless of age, talent and financial resources. NSA is a family and community oriented school that has served 46,000 individuals since its inception, and provides education for 800 students each week.

The Newark School of the Arts (NSA) changes the lives of youth through access to quality education in the performing and visual arts.  We accomplish this by providing excellence in sequential education and training, offering an emerging state of the art learning environment, accepting students of all ages and abilities, and partnering with other successful arts educators while maintaining affordability and accessibility. NSA is a family and community oriented school that has served 38,000 individuals since its inception, and provides education for 500 students each week.
