Non-Discrimination Policy:
NSA SCHOOL POLICIES Effective July 2006 - June 2007
It is the policy of the School that in matters concerning the recruitment, selection, and admission of students, no person shall be discriminated against for reasons of race, creed, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, political affiliation, disability or socioeconomic disadvantages.
The headquarters building at 89 Lincoln Park is wheelchair accessible, and there is elevator access to all floors. The facility at 186 Clinton Avenue is not barrier free. The school serves many persons with various disabilities.
Registration
Registration is for each semester - (September through January and February through June). Students with outstanding balances may not register until all unpaid obligations are satisfied. Fees are as follows:
- $55.00 Registration fee per family. $45.00 Registration fee for individual Senior Citizens
A tuition deposit is required at the time of registration. This amount varies depending on circumstances.
Payment Policy
- Pay in full by cash/check (There will be a $25.00 charge on all returned checks)
- Pay by Debit Card, Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard only)
Extra Fees
- Music students are expected to purchase books, instruments (if applicable) and other supplies related to lessons. (See instructor)
- Students enrolling in dance are required to adhere to the Dance Dress Code of NSA (See NSA Dance Dress Code)
Attendance Policy
- Students are expected to attend all lessons and classes.
- Students absent from class will not receive a make-up nor will a credit be given.
- As a courtesy to our faculty, we ask that students notify the school of any anticipated absence.
- Lessons missed due to teacher absence will be made up. (Make-up lessons should be arranged with instructor.)
- In the event of teacher absence, NSA reserves the right to provide you with a substitute. Students are expected to take the lesson with the substitute teacher. (No refunds or credits given if students opt not to take lesson.)
- If an instructor is late or not in the assigned room, please check with the front office or registrar immediately.
- NSA reserves the right to cancel lessons or classes if the student is absent 2 times or more without notifying school.

Sliding Scale Rates
- Limited financial assistance is available to students who demonstrate need as determined by the Newark School of the Arts guidelines. See Registrar for required proof. Forms are available from the Registrar or at the Front Office.
- Good attendance, satisfactory progress, registering for mandated courses and attending a number of recitals are necessary to maintain scholarship. Attendance will be taken at all recitals.
Scholarship Policy
- Scholarships are available to students who excel on the basis of talent as demonstrated by written teacher recommendation and audition. Students must attend NSA for at least one year to be eligible for scholarships.
- Good attendance, satisfactory progress, registering for mandated courses and attending a number of recitals are necessary to maintain financial aid. Attendance will be taken at all recitals.
Drop/Add Policy
- Use Drop/Add forms to drop, add, withdraw, change name, address and telephone.
- Drop/Add forms are available at Front Office.
- Students registering after the official drop dates are liable for the full semester’s tuition.
- Students are liable for payment for all lessons within the semester
- No refunds or credits will be given after November 11 th for Fall registrants, and April 14 th for Spring registrants. No refund or credit will be given after official drop date. No refund or credit will be given for mandated, subsidized classes, i.e., theory, chorus, etc.
NSA provides the finest faculty possible. If a student is to progress properly, it is expected that the student will practice and diligently pursue his/her course of study. This means that in addition to practicing, students are strongly encouraged to participate in and attend concerts, recitals, music hours and any other performance opportunities available at NSA. Throughout the year, student progress will be evaluated.
Newark School of the Arts, in so far as possible, will provide accommodations for individuals with disabilities to participate in school instruction and programs. This public accommodation will ensure equal opportunity for persons with disabilities including auxiliary aids and services. This service extends only to individuals with disabilities who have physical and mental impairments, such as vision, hearing, or speech impairments. In case of events open to the public, NSA requests that persons call two weeks in advance for special accommodation.
Upon request, course information will be made available in large print, and alternative formats such as audiotape.
